"I learned much about breast cancer and the various treatment modalities, but even more impressive were the glimpses into Dan's and Judy's psyches while they went through all of it. I really felt for Judy when she wrote about how at times her essentially upbeat personality had come crashing down (understandably so), and how she learned to simply go with the experience rather than trying to fight it. And one of the most poignant aspects of the account was when Dan related how at times he wondered if he was up to the task of being a caregiver -- something that I myself wonder about from time to time. In today’s information age, we are so fortunate to have readily accessible written, video, and in-person resources to meet our every need. The key is not to get overwhelmed. When it came to Judy and Dan’s breast cancer journey, they found resources that suited them and met their needs of the moment.

Here are some of the programs and publications they selected. Some of these resources are based in the Denver-area, but we recognize that all metropolitan areas will have similar resources. This list will be updated periodically.

  • Diane Price Fish Foundation (www.dpfcf.org) Helping adult cancer patients enjoy life by playing “hooky” from their cancer. DPFF provides access to social, cultural, and recreational activities throughout Colorado.
  • Life Spark (www.lifesparknow.org) Matching Reiki and Healing Touch providers with individuals with cancer, Denver metro area. Grew out of Qualife.
  • Susan G. Komen for the Cure (www.komen.org) Affiliates in 125 cities and communities, more than 200 Komen Race for the Cure events, fundraising and awareness programs, breast cancer and breast health education, advocacy and public policy programs, grant-making programs, survivor programs.
